Google Prepares to Launch New Chromecast with Google TV (4K) – Upgraded Hardware & Remote Expected

Google is reportedly gearing up to release a new Chromecast with Google TV, maintaining 4K resolution and introducing a redesigned remote. The update comes nearly four years after the original 4K model debuted and two years after the HD version, which recently sold out following a $19.99 clearance sale.
What to Expect from the New Chromecast 4K
The 2020 Chromecast with Google TV (4K) features:
- 1.9 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 (Amlogic S905X3) chip.
- 2GB RAM and 8GB storage (a pain point for users).
The 2024 refresh is expected to bring hardware upgrades while staying close to the $49.99 price point. Key possibilities include:
- Amlogic S905X5 chip (6nm process, AV1 decoding support).
- Improved performance and efficiency over the 12nm-based S905X3.
New Remote Design Leaked
Last year’s Android TV 14 Beta hinted at an updated Chromecast Voice Remote with:
- Same pill-shaped design but additional buttons.
- Relocated volume rocker (moved to the front face).
- New star/”magic” button (likely a customizable shortcut).
Software & Ongoing Updates
Despite running Android 12, the current model has received features like:
- Fast Pair for Bluetooth devices.
- Audio output switcher.
- Homescreen optimizations.
The new Chromecast will likely launch with Android 14, skipping the abandoned Android TV 13.
